St Aidans College, Durham

Age Restrictions Apply: 18+

Folkworks Adult Summer School is a full on week of folk music, song and dance with world class tuition, sessions, ceilidhs, sing-arounds and concerts. Each day you will learn in Main Instrument, Ensemble and Options classes with lots of opportunities to wind down in the evening with social activities and sessions across the college.

Adult Summer School is a perfect way to get involved with folk music, whatever your level. We ask that instrumentalists have a basic understanding of their instrument (contact us if you are unsure) and you do not need to be able to read music or learn it by ear.

The summer school is based in St Aidan’s College, with en-suite accommodation available at Grey College. Non-residential participants are also welcome and can choose whether to receive food as part of their ticket price or bring their own each day. We create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and are able to cater for many accessibility needs – please contact us directly to discuss how we can help you.

2018 will be the 30th year of Folkworks Summer Schools!

We will be celebrating all week and will be bringing all Summer School participants to Sage Gateshead on the morning of Saturday 28th July for a big performance! This will be part of a big folk celebration day at Sage Gateshead for the Great Exhibition of the North. Please note you should arrange return transport from Sage Gateshead at the end of the residential.

Tutors: Ian Lowthian (Director), Sarah Matthews, Jo Freya, Adam Sutherland, Alistair Anderson, Hamish Napier, Laura-Beth Salter, Greg Russell.
