BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking Festival: Choir and Organ

Sage Gateshead Concourse

Newcastle choral sensations, Voices of Hope are joined by the Musical Originals Singers of Jersey for an afternoon of musical delights for many voices.

Despite living and performing nearly 500 miles apart, adult chamber choir, Voices of Hope and the young members the Musical Originals Singers have forged a firm choral connection. They first encountered each other at the Choir of the Year competition.

Both choirs made it to the Grand Final, where Voice of Hope were crowned overall champions in 2016. The two groups were nominated by BBC Radio 3 to represent the British Isles at last year’s international ‘Let the Peoples Sing’ competition and friendship blossomed after they both went on to represent the UK at the televised final in Helsinki.

Now, Radio 3 are bringing them together once again for a special live choral concert at Free Thinking – showing how music for many voices connects individual and groups.

The programme will be presented by Greg Beardsell, who is the music director of several choirs across the UK and deputy music director of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain.
