One of three singers in Gomez, Ben Ottewell has always attracted attention for his trademark bluesy voice, which has been compared to everyone from Tom Waits to Yoda.
“Ottewell’s voice is not of this world. It is a deep, reverent baritone, the kind of voice that shakes windows.” GQ
While Gomez is a three-singer band, Ottewell’s powerful tenor has graced many fan favorites, from early songs like “Get Miles” and “Revolutionary Kind” to the more recent singles “How We Operate” and “See The World.” In one early profile, Rolling Stone declared, “Gomez’s not-so-secret weapon is Ben Ottewell. His deep, raspy voice is spine chilling… more like an otherworldly bluesman than a baby-faced Brit.”
More than a decade later, Ottewell’s gruff/tender pipes are among the most recognizable in music, and his deft slide guitar playing graces much of Gomez’s repertoire. Now Ottewell is branching out into solo touring during down periods in the Gomez odyssey. Expect to hear Gomez songs, as well as assorted covers by the likes of Neil Young, Nick Drake, and Jackson Browne.
