Love and betrayal, witchcraft, playground games, a hornet and a beetle … folk singer Fay Hield and her stellar band offer an enticing glimpse into the world of English folklore. At times sparse and contemplative, at others, fired-up with a spirit-lifting rhythm and plenty of rousing choruses, the music is both captivating and thought-provoking.
Fay Hield is “one of folk music’s most pre-eminent modern voices” (MOJO), and was the brain behind The Full English, an academic project that she transformed into an award-winning show. Full English musicians are here in The Hurricane Party, alongside Fay, breathing new life into ancient tales.
Yorkshire born and bred Fay is also an academic, lecturing in Music at the University of Sheffield where she specialises in the role folk music plays in the evolution of communities
