Part of Christmas at The Glasshouse

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED

Since 2009, east London musical pioneers Hackney Colliery Band have pushed the boundaries of ‘brass band’ conventions. Best-known in their early days for their unlikely covers, including Toto’s ‘Africa’ and Blackstreet’s ‘No Diggity’, HCB have nevertheless developed a huge repertoire of original music, producing four albums of almost entirely newly-penned music since their 2011 debut. Their fourth album ‘Collaborations: Volume One’ vindicated this approach with their strongest material to date and was produced in collaboration with a range of creative talents including Grammy-winning Beninese vocalist Angélique Kidjo and godfather of Ethiopian jazz Mulatu Astatke, which included a spellbinding performance at the Barbican Centre in London.

Having recently returned in fine form with new single ‘Flood’ (with extensive airplay including being championed by Huey Morgan at BBC 6 Music), Hackney Colliery Band and are now thrilled to be returning to the Sage, presenting a celebratory, occasionally festive show which will prove why they have been described by BBC Radio 2 as ‘one of the greatest live bands that we have in this country’.
