The word on the jazz and R&B street is out there for Jarrod Lawson – a vocal talent who is taking Europe by storm with his brand of harmony-laden and powerful take on soul jazz, drawing on the inspiration of Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway, whilst sounding like no-one but himself.
His trademark sound is steeped in soul, jazz, gospel, latin and blues, with an emotionally charged voice to die for. His concert at London’s Jazz Café sold out within days, so make sure you don’t miss this chance to see him for the first time in Gateshead.
“There is literally not enough ink in the world to be spilled proclaiming how amazing Jarrod Lawson’s self-titled debut album is…” soultracks.com
“Over a series of deep danceable grooves blended with smart jazz-fusion arrangements Lawson works a breezy vocal magic all of his own… He is going to be a very big star indeed” Sunday Express
Jarrod Lawson describes his music as “a fusion of r&b/soul songwriting a la 70’s vintage Stevie Wonder with a bit more of a modern jazz complexion. There’s definitely a strong NEO-soul element as well, taken from my absolute fascination with the sultry stylings of D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Van Hunt etc.” Read more from his interview with London Calling.
