Jazz across Europe 5 - Arve Henriksen plus SCHNTZL

Sage Two

Multi-award winning Norwegian trumpet player Arve Henriksen has played in many different contexts, bands and projects, ranging from working with koto player Satsuki Odamura to the rock band Motorpsycho via numerous free improvising groups. In 2017 he was also commissioned to compose music for The Humber Bridge project as part of Hull City of Culture. For this concert he is joined by long term collaborator Jan Bang, along another electronics wizard, Erik Honore, and finally one of Norway’s best loved guitarists Eivind Aarset. Together they will perform music from Arve’s well received 2017 album ‘Towards Language’ (Runegrammofon).

SCHNTZL is a duo comprised of pianist Hendrik Lasure and drummer Casper Van De Velde. The two musicians first met at the ages of 12 and 14, respectively, and have never stopped playing together since, first performing as part of several larger collectives before breaking out on their own in 2014 as the duo, SCHNTZL. The band were selected for the 2017 edition of Twelve Points which presents the most impressive young jazz and creative musicians from across Europe. Their music sees improvisation intertwined with fully arranged compositions.
