Folkworks Junior Summer School is an inspirational Summer School for young folk musicians, singers and dancers aged 9-13. This school is open to any young musician, including singers and dancers, who can play at a basic level on their instruments (contact us if you are unsure of your level).

Junior Summer School is a perfect way to learn more about folk music, whether you have played lots already or are totally new to it. It’s a fun environment and a great way to meet new friends.

The summer school is based in Durham School, where residential participants stay. Non-residential participants are also welcome and receive lunch and dinner at the School. Our experienced and welcoming pastoral staff look after children 24/7 and make sure everyone has a good time. Durham School is new for Junior Summer School and is a perfect base with full use of the music department facilities and homely and comfortable shared rooms – all in the heart of Durham city.

Junior Summer School participants work towards a performance alongside the Youth Summer School participants on the evening of Friday 2 August and will also have an opportunity to perform with all other participants at our farewell picnic on Saturday morning.
