Of all the stars in folk music, few shine as brightly as Yorkshire’s Kate Rusby. This unmissable evening of entertainment will feature songs from Kate’s two albums of Yorkshire-inspired songs and carols.
A remarkable interpretive singer, Kate’s soulful vocals resonate with the wistful beauty of an earthbound angel. Inhabiting a lyric with unforced conviction – no matter how old or how modern – she has that rare ability to transport her audience, of touching them emotionally and making each tune live vividly within their experience and imagination.
South Yorkshire has a very strong tradition of carol singing starting early November. Sunday lunchtimes see hundreds of carollers cram into various pubs in the locality to join in the unashamedly joyous singing – standing room only! At its heart, it represents an oral tradition, constantly evolving, passed down from generation to generation, with roots dating back over 200 years.
“Her show sparkles with magic and an achingly bittersweet sense of Christmasses past” Yorkshire Post, 2012
“ …. exquisite interpretations of traditional material from the pocket sized folk singer with the heartbreakingly tremulous voice and bawdy Yorkshire wit” Daily Telegraph, 2012
