The Jazz Cafe, Newcastle (15-20 minutes walk from Sage Gateshead) will provide a late night venue Friday and Saturday night for festival audiences.
ALT: the Alan Law Trio
Piano: Alan Law
Double Bass: John Pope
Drums: Jonathon Marriot
ALT grew out of the monthly open jam sessions at Andy Champion’s Splinter club at the Bridge Hotel and in addition to much experience accompanying at the jam sessions, they have recently played Splinter in their own right, incorporating freer excursions into their original tunes and rearranged standards.
Alan Law’s various projects include the original Latin band Burundanga, the Latin jazz offshoot, Havana Club 5 and the Darlington based Northern Soul outfit, Weekend Sun whose second single was released in November 2013.
Alan’s playing partners are John Pope, double bass with an almost dizzying variety of Tyneside projects and a rising star of the national improvised music scene; and Jonathon Marriott, drummer with the well regarded and equally well travelled Slowlight Quartet.
All sitters-in welcome. Bring your instrument or just come and listen.
