Magnetic North East with Kathryn Tickell and special guest The Lake Poets and Baltic Crossing

Sage One

Family ticket available

Magnetic North East’s second major concert in Sage One celebrates the wondrous depth and diversity of our region’s musical heritage. Showcasing brand new compositions and bold collaborations, Kathryn Tickell welcomes a host of very special guests including Sunderland troubadour Martin Longstaff (The Lake Poets) who BBC 6 Music describe as “Beautiful and quietly devastating – Stunningly heart-breaking music”.

As part of this performance, we are also proud to be launching a new anthology from Britain’s leading poetry publisher, Bloodaxe Books: ‘Land of Three Rivers’ is a celebration of North-East England in poetry, featuring its places and people, culture, history, language and stories in poems and songs with both rural and urban settings.

Magnetic North East is a new community interest company, borne out of a love for the region: its music, arts, culture, heritage, places and people; its long history of creativity; its strong sense of identity coupled with its adaptability and receptiveness to change. Through its work, Magnetic North East celebrates and promotes the distinctive cultural identity of the North East of England, rooted in the region’s traditions but boldly exploring new opportunities.

Kathryn Tickell is widely acclaimed as an exponent of the Northumbrian pipes and a traditional Northumbrian fiddle player. She is a composer, performer, educator and successful recording artist whose work is deeply rooted in the landscape and people of Northumbria. She has released 15 of her own albums to date and has also recorded and performed with The Chieftains, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Jon Lord, Evelyn Glennie, London Sinfonietta, Sting, and many others. In 2009, she received The Queen’s Medal for Music, awarded to those deemed to have made an outstanding contribution to British music. In 2015 she was awarded the OBE and became a Deputy Lieutenant of Northumberland.
