Newcastle’s own Electro folk pioneers are back in the their home town to introduce the world to ‘Mutations’ their latest record. The line-up is changed and expanded, now including legendary fiddler Shona Mooney and young hotshot Grace Smith.
The sextet-powerhouse-electro-folk sound has been travelling around Europe 2016 most notably Colors of Ostrava (Czech Repilic) and Tatihou (France) and Sidmouth where the band received the accolade of being Jon Boden’s top pick.
The new line up sees the journey of experimentation with folk, dance and electronica continue. The band plays jigs, reels, 3/2, 6/4 tunes from the oldest known manuscripts (Henry Atkinson collection) right up to self composed tunes and even one moderately slow number! You might even get two see a clog dancing duet…but you’ll have to wait and find out.
The evening will include projections of the incredible artwork by artist George Thatcher to accompany the play through of the album. The second half will end with some trusty favourites which have been ‘pumping on your stereo’ for a good couple of years.
Firm festival favourites, Tyneside Troubadours and representing the best in what contemporary folk has to offer, this gig promises to be amazing!
Hosting some of the finest female voices in the music industry this November and offering up a quality-laden festive programme this December, Sage Gateshead has something for everyone this Winter.
Sage Gateshead showcases a strong line-up of folk, roots and blues artists from both sides of the Atlantic.
