Folkworks: Northern Harmony Workshop

The Barbour Room

Learn traditional American harmony singing from Northern Harmony. Suitable for singers with any level of experience.

From shapenote to shanty, banjos to ballads, come and experience the richness of these traditions, taught by the experienced leaders of Northern Harmony. There will always be an instructor singing your part, and all songs will be taught by ear. Singers of all experiences welcome, come and be immersed in the thrilling harmonies of these songs!

Northern Harmony is a US-based vocal ensemble that sings music from ethnic harmony singing traditions from different parts of the world including music form South Africa, Georgia, the Balkan countries, Corsica, as well as many American traditions, and we take pride in learning how to use the special vocal styles and sounds appropriate for these different traditions. This year’s tour has a particularly strong focus on various styles of close american harmony, and the workshop will focus on these traditions.
