Rossini Overture The Barber of Seville
Turina L’oracion del torero
Rodrigo Concierto de Aranjuez
Boccherini Quintet in C La musica notturna delle strade di Madrid arr. James Manson
Mozart Symphony No.35 in D, K.385 Haffner

The season continues its themed concerts with music taking us to sunny Spain. We visit Rossini’s Seville for a tonsorial tidy, the area of Aranjuez, just south of Madrid, for the blind composer Rodrigo’s loved Guitar Concerto, and then to Madrid itself for Boccherini’s evocation of the eighteenth century streets of that city at night. Remaining in Madrid, Turina’s Toreador’s Prayer touches on a serious element of Spanish life. Mozart, although welltravelled throughout Europe, did not visit Spain, but his exuberant Haffner symphony complements the programme’s theme perfectly.

Part of Royal Northern Sinfonia: Out and about across the region and beyond

As well as Royal Northern Sinfonia’s main series of concerts at Sage Gateshead, the orchestra regularly performs at external venues, both nationally and internationally. Here’s what is coming up in the next few months.
