Featuring great bands from across Sage Gateshead’s Join In programme, including our BMus Jazz, Popular and Commercial Music programme and Young Musicians Programme, as well as other ensembles from across the region. This afternoon of free music can be enjoyed by everyone.

The Wright Idea
Part of Sage Gateshead’s Young Musicians Programme, The Wright Idea is a large ensemble performing jazz funk with colourful sounds and featured soloists.
2:30m – 3pm
James Birkett and Bradley Johnson
James and Bradley present music by some of the most influential jazz guitar players of the last hundred years – taking the audience on a musical journey which moves from early jazz and blues, through swing and bebop, to cool and contemporary jazz.
3:30pm – 4pm
Gerry Richardson Trio
The trio maintains and extends the Jazz organ genre with an accessible and eclectic bunch of original tunes and few covers by artists such as Gil Scott Heron, Donald Fagen and Mose Allison.
4:30pm – 5pm
Pianist Johnny Tunnard and bassist John Pope met whilst studying in Newcastle. The trio of Frankly Jazz was formed in 2009 with the addition of Marcus Groundwater on vocals. The group were fortunate enough in 2012 to play many gigs with acclaimed saxophonist Krzysztof Urbanski and the group have been playing gigs up and down the UK since and hope to record their first album rhis year of original music. They play regularly at clubs throughout the North including the newly formed Club 43 in Manchester, but have been seen playing further south, most recently as the headlinding act at a performance for Saatchi & Saatchi, London.

Blue Jazz Quintet
Saxophone Massive with Andy Sheppard
