With New Orleans jazz from their latest album. The Dixie Ticklers will open the festival followed by a late night set.
The band has put today’s date on early jazz, placing it alongside groove-based shuffles and fresh modern treatments whilst constantly staying true to the polyphonic approach that shaped the music of the initial pioneers such as Louis Armstrong, King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton.
Led by clarinettist and composer Dom James, the six piece ensemble combine their deep love and understanding of the feel templates and language of early styles whilst each expressing their own musical voice. Daoud Merchant AKA ‘Washboard Merch’ heads the rhythm section whilst Will Rixon paints a modern image of the great early trumpet players. Tommy Antonio pays double bass and rising star Nicholas Costley-White plays guitar.
This gig is supported by Jazz Services as part of their National Touring Support Scheme.
