Radio 3’s Early Music Show brings you the best in live and recorded music from ancient antiquity to the grit and glamour of the Baroque.

Presenter Hannah French introduces a recital programme put together by tenor Charles Daniels and lutenist Elizabeth Kenny which takes us through the full gamut of emotions in a recital of 17th Century lutesongs from the melancholia of John Dowland to the positively fruity verses of Thomas Campion.

Charles Daniels has made over ninety recordings ranging from renaissance music to contemporary repertoire. Recent performances have included working with the Academy of Ancient Music, The Holland Baroque Society, Tafelmusik in Toronto and the Gabrieli Consort.

Elizabeth Kenny is one of the world’s leading lute players, Professor of Lute at the Royal Academy of Music. She performed with Les Arts Florissants 1992-2007, with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment 1997-2015, has set up the ensemble Theatre of the Ayre and performs as a soloist.

Hannah French is a broadcaster, academic, public speaker, educator and Baroque flautist, and has been presenting editions of Radio 3’s Early Music Show since 2015. She has taught at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and her book Sir Henry Wood and J.S. Bach is due to be published this year.
