A celebration of the positive effects of music and wellbeing in later life. The day will feature a large scale sing along, mass percussion workshop and exhibitors presenting health and wellbeing products as well as a whole host of fun free performances.
The festival will aim to change perceptions and emphasise the amazing health benefits associated with group music making.
Performances from a huge array of groups playing an eclectic mix of genres, styles and instrumentation. The performances will highlight the amazing level of ability and skill amongst the participants. All groups are part of Sage Gateshead’s, Silver Programme; A community music programme that aims to engage people over the age of 50 in fun and informative daytime sessions.
12.30pm – 1.30pm: Steel Pan Performance
Energetic and upbeat renditions of a mixed repertoire played on these beautiful tuned-percussion instruments. Expect to hear everything from traditional calypso music, right up to Top 40 Pop tunes.
1.30pm – 3.30pm: Fretted Instruments and Wind Band Performance
Silver Mandolin Orchestra, Silver Bluegrass Band, Silver Rock & Pop Uke, Silver Skiffle, Silver Wind Band. A fantastic display of traditional fretted instrumentation including a 35-piece Mandolin Orchestra, Bluegrass & Skiffle Bands, a Ukulele Band also on the bill our Silver Wind Band.
5.15pm – 5.30pm: Mass Sing
Your big chance to sing at Sage Gateshead. Join in with this mass singing group which is aiming to break records with the huge number of participants this event hopes to bring together. Represent your region and show the amazing power of music. This once in a life time opportunity is certainly not about how competent a singer you are, so therefore is open to all abilities; even if you’ve never sang a note or think you can’t sing.
5.30pm: Finale Performances
Divas, Quicksilver, Rock & Roll Band, Sensations
Come together and dance the night away to these fantastic bands and choirs playing a mixture of Rock, Pop, and Soul. Let your hair down and enjoy this upbeat end to the day.
