
Produced by Sage Gateshead in association with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) Open Stages, Bernstein’s classic musical ‘West Side Story’ will run from 4th-7th July 2012 as part of the World Shakespeare Festival.
A stunning, full-scale production with bold new choreography by Will Tuckett, the cast will feature ambitious, talented young people and amateur theatre-makers recruited through open auditions alongside early stage professionals.
Northern Sinfonia, orchestra of Sage Gateshead, will be conducted by Gateshead-born and critically acclaimed conductor John Wilson. The production will be directed and choreographed by award-winning choreographer and dancer Will Tuckett.

The North East’s World Shakespeare Festival offering also includes Gregory Doran’s production of ‘Julius Caesar’ at Theatre Royal, while Northern Stage hosts ‘The Rest is Silence’ and ‘Macbeth: Leila and Ben – A Bloody History’.
