Brighouse & Rastrick present Classic Brass! Featuring Guest Soloist David Childs

Brighouse and Rastrick will provide the entertainment for the first time at the World of Brass Gala Concert. Under the baton of Dr. David Thornton the 2017 National Champions of Great Britain will present a programme of classic brass with Virtuosi special guest soloist David Childs.

Brighouse and Rastrick were originally formed in 1858 and have won the National Brass Band Championship on no less than 10 occasions, British Open Championship 5 times and the European Championship twice. The band will represent England at the 2019 European Brass Band Championship in Montreux, Switzerland in April. Since the Brass in Concert Festival moved to Sage Gateshead in 2005 the band have featured regularly among the prizes winning the title in 2006 and 2007. Over and above its contest laurels the band is best known for its recording of The Floral Dance which was No. 2 in the charts for 9 weeks achieving over 1 million sales and earning gold and silver discs.

David Childs is currently Professor of Euphonium at the University of North Texas. His family roots have been synonymous with brass bands for three generations initially through his Grandfather John, followed by his father Robert and uncle Nicholas. In 2001 David became the BBC Young Musician of the Year and has been instrumental in raising the profile of the euphonium in the classical world of music. He has played with many of the leading orchestra in the world and performed at an extensive number of venues on occasions giving the first performance of works for the euphonium. Over the years David has continued his links with brass bands and has been a guest soloist with amongst others, Brighouse and RastrickBlack Dykeand Cory for whom he was for principal euphonium.

Classic brass will appeal to brass band enthusiasts as well as lovers of good music of all ages.
