Emerging Artists - Tipping Point, Folk Rising and more!
There are many platforms for emerging artists at Sage Gateshead, and we’re really proud to support musicians in the early stages of their careers. Our regular Folk Rising concerts highlight up and coming instrumentalists and songwriters – coming up we have Fran Smith (pictured), Matt Stalker and Tracey Browne, then Rob Heron and The Tea Pad Orchestra, Christi Andropolis with Matt Price and Scott William Albert Hartley.
We also regularly feature emerging classical artists as part of the Echo Rising series and in our Young Classical Arts Trust concerts. Also check out the great Making Tracks gigs – Making Tracks brings exciting new world artists to the UK, and is a great way to explore new musical landscapes.
Spotlight on Generator
We’ve recently put on some great shows in conjunction with Generator – June’s Evolution Emerged saw some of the hottest local talent including Hyde and Beast and Shields raise the roof, and Space Invasion in September combined film screenings with live performances from Ghostpoet , Coldcut’s Raj Pannu, and emerging artists including Lulu James . The forthcoming ‘Tipping Point’ gig brings Roundhouse Rising Festival to the North East for the first time – and showcases some amazing rising talent from the region and beyond.
We caught up with Joe Frankland from Generator ahead of the Tipping Point concert in February.
“Having discovered many a great artist through the ‘Tipping Point (Generator’s innovative new music blog – click here to explore!), it’s marvellous to be able to showcase some of our favourites at the most prestigious venue in the region.
Headlining this celebration of new music is the insanely catchy Mausi – all danceable rhythms, modest guitars, colourful synth and catchy boy-girl choruses.
Also appearing are Essex band Eliza and the Bear, Zane Lowe and NME favourites Death At Sea, and Newcastle based singer-songwriter Amy Holford”.
