Folkestra in Chicago - Video Blog day 5
The day started cleverly disguising and smuggling bagels out of the hostel to have breakfast down by the lakeside. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite as warm as originally hoped, and most of the time was spent preventing our food blowing into the lake. All attempts to enter the lake were ended by screaming and running in the opposite direction, bit colder than expected…This was followed by rather wonderful games of British Bulldog and Red Rover, moments to note being Jacob’s spectacular jump over the line.
This was then followed by a jamming session in the Armitage building, playing tunes and calling dances for the kids there, which was great fun. It was great to hear the kids playing traditional tunes from our side of the pond, and loving playing them. Some of Folkestra then went to a fiddle workshop, telling the class about North East traditions and teaching them good old classics like the Keel Row.
A free afternoon of shopping in the heat that had appeared as if by magic, including trips to the Hard Rock Cafe. To round off the day, we were ‘entertaining’ the other residents at the hostel with a ‘few’ tunes. Only one more full day to go!
