Words from the Green Team : August 2012
An informal roundup of some initiatives, schemes, and opportunities to green up and get healthy that we’ve come across lately.
Cycling in Newcastle just got even more accessible – Scratch Bikes
Scratch Bikes is a bike-sharing initiative started by Newcastle University and supported by Newcastle NE1 Limited. It’s modelled on successful European bike schemes and provides 150+ bicycles across the town centre, hireable at a small fee – just sign up on the website (from 1p) then use SMS on your mobile when you’re ready to ride! Visit the Scratch Bikes website.
There are a lot of great routes in the North East – check out this list , download a cycle mapping app, or go your own way! Always ride safely, pedal fans, and maintain your machine.
Walking: The original way to travel
Explore on foot for fitness and fun. There are some truly great walks in the North East. Walking is a great way to explore your region and get fit to boot. Here’s a great way to get involved in an interesting walking project which claims to help you explore the world’s cultures without leaving Blighty. It’s called Walk the World and is worth a look!
Electric car charging points
Did you know that in the North East we’ve got a particularly high number of Electric car charge points ? Including one right behind Sage Gateshead. Here’s a photograph of some staff members looking quite pleased about this (credit Sally Baitch).
And finally: The pedal powered mini-cinema
Have a look at this pedal powered portable cinema. We want one.
For more information about Sage Gateshead’s commitment to the environment, click here to read our Environmental Policy. We’re working with Julie’s Bicycle to put sustainability at the heart of what we do.
