National Afternoon Tea Week 11 - 17th August
It’s an English tradition, and it’s one we are proud to embrace and continue to enjoy today…Afternoon Tea. We love it that much, the delight even has its own celebratory week!
Ahh, Aternoon Tea, that little luxury to help us through when the day is dragging, where we can spoil ourselves with bite sized sandwiches, cakes, scones and a glorious pot of tea. Nowadays, we can truly indulge and have an accompanying glass of Champagne; don’t mind if we do!
A certain young lady, Anna, Duchess of Bedfordshire is believed to have come up with the idea for Afternoon Tea after complaining of ‘having that sinking feeling’ in the late afternoon between meals… poor love. But personally, we are really glad that Anna was feeling slightly more hungry than usual that day because it is our favourite treat!
A few years ago, the afternoon tea resurgence began and almost every hotel of a certain standard started offering it, as well as a rise in traditional, quaint tea rooms. The UK Tea Guild estimated a 20% increase of Afternoon Teas taking place in 2012!
At Sage Gateshead we are extremely proud of our afternoon tea experience; beautifully presented, homemade delights to be enjoyed with fabulous views of the River Tyne (if we say so ourselves). As well as our traditional afternoon tea, we’ve also introduced a Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea, with Yorkshire pudding with roast topside of beef, homemade pork pies and Scotch eggs and bread and dripping accompanying the afternoon tea staples of homemade cakes, scones and sandwiches filled with locally sourced cheeses, meats and chutneys. Why not wash it down with a bottle of our favourite Wylam Brewery beer?
We’re even letting the kids get involved! Our new ‘Dudes & Dolls Afternoon Tea’ lets the young ones sample a traditional afternoon tea experience!
So, to celebrate National Afternoon Tea Week (11th-17th August) we are offering 25% off our Afternoon Teas throughout the entire month of August! You’re Welcome.
