Panning For Gold - Wendy Doyle

Posted on 26 January 2014

Today I got together a quartet of the region’s most talented pannists and quick learners to try out Alistair’s Panning For Gold score. A solid three hours of playing later and we’d tested out all the major themes. It’s just great! The music will definitely be a challenge, which is what we’re after.

Playing Northumbrian folk-style music on the pan is very new. For me there are accents in places I can’t predict. It couldn’t be more different to the panorama style. We move around time signatures. Quavers aren’t always strictly quavers. It’s going to be a very interesting musical journey. Bring on the next session.
