West Side Story: Officer Krupke speaks!

Posted on 18 June 2012

Ahead of our production of Bernstein’s classic musical West Side Story, we caught up with Martin Carroll, who plays Officer Krupke.

Tell us about your rehearsal experience this week “Something coming, something (very) good! By Saturday afternoon I had completed my first week back with the WSS Company. Hardly seems possible that we all first gathered for the Meet n’ Greet in London, at the Kobi Nazrul Centre on May 14th!

In the weeks between, the cast & creative team had worked extremely hard & my first impression as I walked in on Tues afternoon was ‘Wow!’ – this is something special in the making. By the end of Saturday’s first complete ‘stagger thru’, I hadn’t changed my mind.

On the contrary, my first instinct was to post on Facebook, that of the almost one hundred productions that I’ve had the good fortune to work on, over the past 37 years (OMG!), this company stands out as one of the most talented and friendly which emanates from the top all the way through!”

Produced by Sage Gateshead in association with the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) Open Stages, Bernstein’s classic musical ‘West Side Story’ will run from 4th-7th July 2012 as part of the World Shakespeare Festival. More Details
