Young Musicians Programme: Youth Ensembles Residential Weekend - September 2016

Posted on 9 September 2016

The first weekend in September saw all four youth ensembles meet at St Hild and St Bede College in Durham for one big residential. Folkestra, Jambone, Quay Voices and Young Sinfonia convened on Saturday morning and got straight into rehearsals around the campus.

The weekend was full of rehearsal, with the music directors leading our students through the 2016/17 repertoire giving them a taste of what the year had in store for them. When they weren’t playing and singing they were eating together, socialising and taking part in the Big Quiz!

On Sunday morning all ensembles met for a mass warm-up, with Justin Doyle leading his arranged version of Amazing Grace. We wrapped up the weekend in the afternoon with an informal sharing for each other and for families.

It was a great opportunity for us all to see the hard work that has been put into this weekend by our young musicians and their directors. We also got an encore of Amazing Grace!
