Young People's Action Group - Take it to the Bridge
Sage Gateshead’s Young People’s Action Group is currently delivering three youth network events across the region, called ‘Take it to the Bridge!’. The group is supported by Sage Gateshead’s Youth Leadership Strand Leader Wendy Doyle. For more information about this project for young people, click here.
Joe (23) reports on the Cramlington event (2nd February).
The turnout of young people was fantastic, around thirty this time! It was a big day.The event drew a lot of influence from our first one in Redcar; retaining a lot of successful energizers and icebreakers, but then moving on to creating Visual Boards and Word Walls with a strong emphasis on using vocal performance, be it singing, rapping or poetry, for the young people involved to get their voices and opinions heard.
From the get-go, the word for the day was ‘marvelous’, and it was certainly bandied about plenty throughout the day – not without justification. The fact that by the closing words, ‘marvelous’ was still relevant was really quite a nice touch.
Everyone involved in the event did brilliantly, whether it was the young people themselves who got stuck into every activity and gave 110%; Sage volunteers and staff, who held the event together and had a great level of communication with the participants; or the regular volunteers and staff from the Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project and their wonderful support and contribution, combined with their prior connections with the young people.
As the co-gaffer for this event, I was extremely proud of every single figure involved, participant or staff, and will be looking forward to what’s in store for the next stages of Take It To The Bridge and future projects with the Young People’s Action Group. Now onwards to Gateshead Old Town Hall, 16th of February! We’ll see you there. Joe, 23
