Works in conjunction with: L&P team, Marketing & Communications team, others across the organisation
Budget accountability: Delegated by Innovation Strategy Leader – up to £25,000

Overall purpose of the job

To contribute to devising and implementing a Learning & Participation (L&P) marketing and sales strategy and plan for Sage Gateshead.

To manage the promotion and selling of L&P activities, products and services to maximise L&P earned income

To work with the department Director and L&P department on maximising L&P earned income

Main Duties and responsibilities

• Work with the department Director, colleagues in the Learning and Participation department to contribute to planning and realisation of the department’s work in line with our mission, values, goals, priorities, strategies and plans
• Contribute to the devising and implementation of an L&P marketing and sales strategy and plan
• Carry out market research and understand business intelligence, markets and L&P products and services, working closely with the Director, Innovation Strategy Leader, Senior Managers, Programme Leaders and Health Strategy and Social Care Strategy Leader to make sure products and services are sale ready
• Provide quarterly market intelligence reports to enable L&P Director and Senior Managers to make informed business decisions and to support programme management
• Develop new strategic partnerships where appropriate, acting as Sage Gateshead’s representative in strategic discussions and negotiations as relevant, with the support of the Director, Innovation Strategy Leader and other Senior Managers
• Negotiate with external partners and stakeholders to promote and sell L&P activities, products and services as agreed
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers
• Sell L&P activities, products and services to maximise L&P earned income and increase income streams
• Work with Producers, Managers, Project and Programme Leaders to promote and sell activities, products and services as agreed
• Support L&P staff to develop materials, tool kits and displays to promote and sell L&P activities, products and services as agreed
• Write reports, proposals, funding claims, monitoring reports and contribute to advocacy materials etc. as required in consultation with appropriate colleagues within L&P and other departments of Sage Gateshead
• Utilise digital media to promote and sell L&P activities, products and services as agreed
• Work with Senior Practice and Quality Advisor to ensure that the principles and practices of Sage Gateshead’s Quality Framework and agreed quality standards are maintained
• Create and manage relevant budgets within the departmental planning framework as agreed with relevant Senior Managers, taking delegated responsibility for income/ sales targets and cost control, working closely with relevant Managers
• Promote and communicate L&P activities and projects as agreed
• Represent North Music Trust at projects and events as required
• Accept appropriate individual responsibility for the observance, promotion and implementation of Health & Safety, Customer Care, Equality and Diversity, Dignity at Work and other policies with the Trust.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to the post and in line with the needs of the organisation

Knowledge, experience and skills required to do the job

• At least three years experience of project management
• Degree level standard education or equivalent
• Excellent oral and written communication skills including report and marketing copy writing
• Experience of carrying our market research and collecting business intelligence
• Excellent negotiation and sales skills
• Excellent research and analytic skills
• Proven organisational skills including planning and financial management
• Excellent IT & Digital Media skills
• Some experience of the commercial cultural marketplace
• Ability to work on own initiative
• An appropriate attitude and approach which clearly demonstrates a genuine commitment to team work and collaboration
• The ability to manage your own workload, working on your own initiative and as part of a team
• Knowledge, experience and understanding in relation to current debates around music learning and participation
• A passion for music and a demonstrable commitment to the ethos of Sage Gateshead

• Some knowledge of public sector commissioning processes
• Knowledge, experience and understanding in relation to monitoring and evaluating projects

Terms and Conditions

The salary for this post is £23,298 – £26,665 per annum pro rata (SCP 27-31) with appointments normally made at the bottom of the scale.

The holiday entitlement is 33 days per annum pro rata (including statutory holidays). You will be auto enrolled into our pension scheme after 3 months of employment. We also offer subsidised parking for staff members, as well as a discount in our café, and access to a voluntary health cash plan.
