National Sandwich Week at Sage Gateshead

Posted on 15 May 2014

National Sandwich Week began on May 11th and our talented chefs have been getting involved in celebrating everything that is great about sandwiches, subs, toasties, wraps, flatbreads, paninis, ciabattas, baps, barms, butties and sarnies!

The British Sandwich Association’s tagline for this year is ‘Good for Everyone’ aimed at promoting the importance of taking a break to buy a sandwich at lunchtime and for our visitors this week our chefs have been taking part in a sandwich design competition, with the winner receiving a prize at the end of the week.

The team’s entries are below for you to pick a favourite, or pop in and visit us and try the sandwich of the day!

  • Abbie – Chili chip butty in Geordie Brown Ale bread and gravy
  • Tom – Smoked salmon, cream cheese and rocket sandwich on Geordie granary bread, served with fries.
  • Rob – Ham and cheese toastie with homemade salt, chilli and paprika crisps and tomato and chilli chutney
  • Sean – Breaded chicken, mustard mayonnaise and salsa wrap, served with tortilla chips.

Of course, if you’ve missed lunch and just fancy an afternoon snack, our Sir Michael Straker Café is always stocked with freshly baked cakes, scones and pastries, including the newest addition to our display, the spectacular WOW cake!
