Sourcing Local Produce

Posted on 17 March 2014

At Sage Gateshead we are passionate about serving dishes that offer a taste of the local area. Sourcing local produce lowers food miles, reduces emissions and guarantees fresher, more flavoursome ingredients. Using our chefs’ vast catering experience, as well as utilising our partnership with Terry Laybourne, we carefully select local suppliers to work with, guaranteeing the very best of the North East on your plates and in your glasses.

Currently, our menus are serving local delights such as Beckleberry’s ice cream, a highly decorated, family-run company who supply us with a huge range of ice creams and sorbets; you could try a different flavour every time you visit!

We are also offering a selection of Northumberland cheeses, both as part of dishes, such as our goat’s cheese and pear salad, or as a cheeseboard served with a homemade onion chutney and celery sticks. Northumberland Cheese have been producing artisan cheese on the Blagdon Estate for nearly 30 years.

Our bars are also serving a selection of Wylam’s Ales, including Gold Tankard and Angel Amber Ale; an ale commissioned by Gateshead Council to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Angel of the North sculpture. Currently, every Friday between 5.30pm – 6.30pm, you can try 4 pints of Wylams Ale at Sage Gateshead for only £10!
