SummerTyne Americana Festival, 21 To 23 July 2017 - Early Bird Offer
Celebrating the finest American roots music, SummerTyne Americana Festival, at Sage Gateshead, brings together legendary artists, a bunch of rising stars and the best of the next generation for a weekend long party and some very special UK only shows.
A special Early Bird Multi-Buy Ticket Offer is available until 13 May, with discounts up to £4 per ticket for Sage One and Sage Two performances, meaning music fans can see more and save.
The stellar line-up in Sage One and Sage Two between 21 and 23 July includes; The Shires plus Sarah Darling, William Bell and Stax Academy Revue, Beth Nielsen Chapman with special guest Callaghan, Merle Haggard ‘s Strangers featuring Ben & Noel Haggard plus Ashley Campbell, Chuck Prophet, Angaleena Presley, Jim Lauderdale & Sam Outlaw and Jo Harman & Lisa Mills.
Heading up the main stage and riding high, the UK’s most popular country act, The Shires, return to SummerTyne with special guest Sarah Darling. Winner of the GRAMMY for best Americana Album, Stax legend William Bell and band perform a UK exclusive, supported by the 12 piece Stax Academy Revue and in another not-to-be-missed one-off show, award-winning singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman will perform with special guests Callaghan and the SummerTyne Strings.
One year on from the death of Merle Haggard, SummerTyne welcomes Merle Haggard’s Strangers featuring Ben and Noel Haggard, his sons, alongside their father’s band and supported by none other than Ashley Campbell, daughter of country superstar Glen Campbell.
The line-up in Sage Two also includes Kentucky native and Pistol Annie’s Angaleena Presley and singer/songwriter and Americana legend Chuck Prophet with his 5 piece band and there are two superb double bills featuring two of the finest female blues voices from both sides of the Atlantic, Jo Harman and Lisa Mills and the godfather of the Nashville scene Jim Lauderdale and Californian rising star Sam Outlaw.
Not included in the multi-buy offer but definitely worth adding to the wish list is the programme for the SummerTyne Lounge. There’s a chance to hear one of the most exciting and evocative voices on the International Americana scene, New Zealand born Marlon Williams. Hotly tipped Jesca Hoop will play with her band with support from up and coming UK act Worry Dolls, and from Newcastle via Massachussets, Phil & Cath Tyler bring their brand of folk in a concert with guest/collaborator Tim Eriksen.
Back for 2017 will be the hugely popular free Jumpin’ Hot Stage with MC, BBC Radio Newcastle’s Mr Drayton and Dee Jay Stagger Lee Fisher. The stunning riverside setting provides a perfect backdrop for audiences to kick back and enjoy a sizzling combo of country, blues, folk, rockabilly, bluegrass and soul with headline sets from Earl Thomas & Band and Savoy Family Cajun Band.
The outdoor stage has lots more special guests from the US and UK including: Rhona Dalling, Buffalo Skinners, Paul Handyside Trio, The King Bees, Archie Brown & The Prisoners of Fender, Big Ray & the Hipthrusters, Stax Academy Revue, Dexeter, Fargo Railroad Company, Vera Van Heeringen Trio, Howlin’ Ric and the Rocketeers, Amythyst Kiah, Bradley Creswick Western Swing Sinfonia, Robert Vincent Band, Errol Linton Blues Band, Jonathan Terrell and High Plains Jamboree. There are artists still to announce for the free Concourse Stage and there will be the usual film and talk programme as well as a range of street food traders.
The Multi Buy offer gives savings when two or more separate concerts are booked in Sage One or Sage Two. The Early Bird Offer discount to 13 May 2017 is: Book 2 concerts and save £2 per ticket/book 3 concerts and save £3 per ticket/book 4 concerts and save £4 per ticket. Discounts will reduce to £1, £2 and £3 per ticket after 13 May and will be available right up to and during the weekend of SummerTyne.
