Lars Vogt shortlisted for prestigious Artist of the Year award
The Gramophone Classical Music Awards are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year – and Royal Northern Sinfonia Music Director Lars Vogt is amongst just 10 nominees to have been shortlisted for their prestigious Artist of the Year award.
Launched in 1977, the ‘Oscars of the Classical Music World’ have gained an international reputation for being one of the most significant accolades in the classical music industry. While winners for the majority of the award categories are selected by a panel of critics, it’s up to the public to decide who wins Artist of the Year – and voting is now open.
The highly acclaimed nomination comes at the close of a very successful Classical Season at Sage Gateshead, which has seen a 12% increase in classical audiences. Over the season, Lars and RNS have performed and recorded all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos in a special live recordings project to much acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
The first of three releases was chosen as Classic FM’s album of the week, with volume two in the series due out in the autumn and the third in spring 2018. Flying the flag for the North East, RNS and Lars have recently returned from a tour of Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul, with more performances of the Beethoven piano concertos to come in Brazil, Uruguay and Peru.
Fans of Lars won’t want to miss his first solo recital in Sage One on Wednesday 20 September, which marks the launch of Sage Gateshead’s brand new Piano Greats series. The series also sees the return of Sage Gateshead favourite Imogen Cooper, also on the shortlist for Artist of the Year 2017.
