Local Lads On Song With Celebrated Tenor at Sage Gateshead
Talented young singers from regional choir, Quay Lads, will get the opportunity to perform alongside one of the UK’s most admired young tenors, West End star Jonathan Ansell, when he returns to Sage Gateshead on Sunday 27th April.
Jonathan, who has now sold over 2million albums, shot to fame as part of pop-opera group G4 on ‘The X Factor’ in 2004. He then went on to instant stardom as a solo artist, releasing two chart topping albums ‘Tenor at the Movies’ and ‘Forever’.
Nominated for a Classical Brit Award, his soaring high tenor voice enables him to truly connect with his audience. More recently, he has chosen an exciting new direction, appearing as ‘The Man’ in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s critically acclaimed ‘Whistle Down The Wind’.
Joining Jonathan for this sensational concert, featuring a mix of operatic hits and pop songs, will be special guests Quay Lads. The boys choir, perform annually with Royal Northern Sinfonia at their Christmas Concerts and have featured in Northern Sinfonia family concerts in Sage One.
Jacqui Cameron, Young Musicians Programme Manager at Sage Gateshead said: “This should be a lovely way to end what has been a very exciting year for our boys choir; they have recently returned from a couple of days in London where they performed in a Gala concert at the Royal Festival Hall and on Wednesday 2nd April, will be singing in Sage One here in Sage Gateshead with the Simón Bolívar National Youth Choir of Venezuela. Persuading boys to sing can be a challenge, but the current cohort in Quay Lads are loving it!”
Jonathan said: “As a member of the West Sussex Boys Choir from the tender age of 7yrs and enjoying the wonderful experience of performing onstage with the beauty and purity of other unbroken male voices I am very much looking forward to returning to this spectacular venue to share the stage with these talented local lads!”
Some of Jonathan’s solo career highlights to date include the nationwide Valentines Tour with Hayley Westenra; a tour of the United States with the late Marvin Hamlisch accompanied by the NSO and PSO, several performances at the Royal Albert Hall including: the Classical Brits; Classic FM at the Movies and the Festival of Remembrance in front of Her Majesty the Queen and most recently performing as ‘Jesus’ in the World Premier of ‘Omega and Alpha’ in Wells Cathedral.
The concert, presented with Tony Denton Productions, takes place at Sage Gateshead at 7.30pm on Sunday 27th April. You can book in person at Sage Gateshead, by phone on 0191 443 4661 and online here.
