PRS for Music Foundation Announces Sage Gateshead as a Talent Development Partner

Posted on 15 April 2016

PRS for Music Foundation have announced that Sage Gateshead are one of 22 organisations from across the UK who have been selected as a PRS Foundation Talent Development Partner for 2016. The music organisation has been awarded one of the largest funding amounts available from the programme.

Sage Gateshead has been recognised as working at the frontline of talent development in the UK, supporting a broad range of individual music creators across different music genres and UK regions.

As a Talent Development Partner, Sage Gateshead will receive a grant from the Foundation for their year-round activity and will act as PRS Foundation Ambassadors, signposting music creators who are not currently aware of PRS funding support.

Sage Gateshead has been selected for the quality and range of opportunities they are offering in the North East and the year-round impact their work is having on the music creators they support.

Abigail Pogson, Managing Director at Sage Gateshead said:
“We are thrilled that this grant will allow for numerous projects including: a composer in residence with each of our four fantastic youth ensembles, providing opportunities to emerging composers; support to ten emerging artists across our performance programme which will include marketing and fundraising mentoring as well as performance and recording opportunities; open rehearsal space for regional music creators during holiday periods so that they can develop new music using our world-class facilities; and host a cross-genre showcase festival, New Year New Artists in 2017 providing artists from folk, jazz, classical and popular & contemporary genres to perform to taste-makers, industry guests and new audiences.”

This acknowledgement reflects PRS Foundation’s commitment to supporting composers and songwriters of all backgrounds either through direct investment or by helping organisations which nurture music creators and promote their music to audiences at home and overseas.

Vanessa Reed, Executive Director of PRS for Music Foundation said:
“We are proud to be supporting such a strong and diverse group of organisations which have the needs of talented UK music creators at the centre of their plans. I look forward to following each partner’s projects and initiatives as well as helping this network to share insight into the current challenges facing individual artists across the UK and increasing opportunities for a broader range of artists to receive the help they deserve at crucial moments in their career.”
