Relaxed performance of The Snowman at Sage Gateshead

Posted on 30 November 2016

Sage Gateshead’s ever-popular annual live music and film event for all the family, The Snowman, is now on sale with a relaxed matinee performance added for those with autism or disabilities, or families who find a less formal setting more appealing.

Audiences can now enjoy the classic 1982 animated film, adapted from Raymond Briggs’ timeless picture book, on the big screen accompanied live by Royal Northern Sinfonia playing Howard Blake’s enchanting score in a supportive and relaxed environment on Thursday 22 December at 2pm.

The lights will be up a little, the sound down a little, and listeners are free to move around and make noise during this performance. Hall doors will open earlier and be left open for customers to come and go as they wish, and public address announcements will not take place. Quiet spaces will be available for those who require them, and Northern Rock Foundation Hall will become a calming chill-out area complete with bean bags, floor mats and a screening of the 30 minute film.

Now a Christmas tradition at the music venue, Sage Gateshead has delighted sell-out audiences of all ages with screenings of The Snowman accompanied by live music since the building opened to the public in December 2004. Snowman-themed family lunches are available to pre-book at Ticket Office, and Sage Gateshead’s shop is already well-stocked with a range of Snowman gifts.

Further screenings of The Snowman will take place in the run up to Christmas on Thursday 22 December (5pm), Friday 23 December (11am, 2pm & 5pm) and Saturday 24 December (11am & 2pm). These performances will also include an interactive seasonal singalong and some festive Frozen numbers whereas the relaxed performance features the film screening only.

You can book tickets online here, or visit Sage Gateshead’s Ticket Office either in person (open from 12noon) or by calling 0191 443 4661. Tickets are priced from £15.05 with Family Tickets available. To discuss specific requirements or arrange a pre-visit to the building, customers can contact us via this form.
