Folkworks: Fiddles On Fire 2015

Welcome to the sixth Fiddles on Fire festival! Once again, the whole building will come alive with fiddle music representing a huge variety of styles and traditions.

The sizzling concert programme sits side by side with an equally stimulating workshop programme, inviting players of all abilities to come and learn new tunes, styles and techniques.

Fiddles on Fire follows a unique exploration of the English fiddle tradition in a new event: The English Fiddle Symposium, instigated by Folkworks Artistic Associate, Eliza Carthy, and presented in partnership with Newcastle University. The English Fiddle Symposium is open to everyone and will appeal to people who have an interest in traditional music who want to hear more of its history and the passionate debate it can engender.

Fiddles on Fire 2015 is also the launch event for a new book of English fiddle tunes brought together by Eliza Carthy and published by Faber & Faber. Many of the tunes will be at the heart of The Big Fiddle and other shared moments within the festival.
