Music-Making and Learning for Adults 2012-13

At Sage Gateshead, we run music groups, workshops and classes in many types of music for all ages and levels of skill.

Maybe you’d like to:

Learn a new skill, develop an existing one or get back into something you haven’t done for a while

Meet new people with similar interests or complementary skills

Have some fun and an escape from everyday life

Whatever your reason, music-making at Sage Gateshead will help you achieve your full potential in a relaxed and friendly environment, with experienced tutors, talented musicians and great music.

In order to help you find the best activity to join, we have indicated what level of experience you will need to get the most from the session, and the complexity of the music you will be working on. Do keep in mind that this is just a guide and regardless of your experience, music-making is first and foremost fun.

First Steps

You are an absolute beginner, you are returning to music after a while or you believe that you can’t sing or play a note. These groups are designed to conquer your fears as well as developing basic skills and technique so that you can quickly enjoy taking your music-making to the next level. There are no auditions and no prior skills or experience needed.

Next Steps

You’ve been making music for a while or you are confident in your own ability but have not sung in a choir or played in an ensemble before. Maybe you’d like to try a new genre or something a little more hallenging.
This is a place for you to develop and improve your skills with others who enjoy the same music as you. No auditions, some experience of singing and loads of enthusiasm required.

Up for a Challenge

You’re a confident musician looking to perfect your skills and use your knowledge and experience to their full potential. Sessions are likely to be genre-specific with performance as a key element of the group’s aims. You may be required to audition. An open mind, commitment and a willingness to enjoy is essential.
